Jump Start Foundation
Jump Start is a unique programme for unemployed, homeless or temporarily housed young people aged 16-25, helping them rediscover their talents and motivations through football and personalised support.
The project's founder is Kate Wilson, whose passion to help other young people is shaped by her own experiences as a young homeless person striving to develop a career.
Objectives
- To provide daily football and social activities for homeless and unemployed young people
- To encourage and monitor the decrease in anti-social activity amongst the young people involved
- To build key skills, including literacy and numeracy skills
- To enable participants to develop competence, confidence and capabilities through individual profiles including life goals and dreams.
- To improve fitness and general well being of all participants
Pilot Scheme
A seven week pilot is due to commence in March 2009 including the following daily activities.
- Fitness and football training
- Preparing and cooking meals
- Personal profile building
- Project work
Participants can also take advantage of gaining qualifications to give them a head start when applying for work. These include:
- Health and Hygiene certificate
- Health and Safety at Work certificate
- Various CLAIT modules
- Basic Maths
- Basic English
